ALBUM: Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift’s debut album puts her early teenage years on display through twangy guitar strums and a peppy faux-southern drawl in every note–it’s juvenile in the best way, and it’s a relatable reflection of being a young girl trying to find her place in the world (no pun intended). She bookends heartbreaking ballads with scathing recounts of exes who’ve done her wrong, and she does it in a chaotic but entertaining and enjoyable way. I knew the slightly-unhinged country vibes and adolescent topics of this album were going to be the focus of this cocktail, so my thoughts went straight to tequila–and what says “don’t mess with a wild-haired sixteen year old songwriter” better than a margarita? Honestly, I tend to think of margaritas as a little basic and juvenile, but still really great on occasion, and only when done really well. That made it the perfect cocktail choice for such a similar album vibe. To give the drink some spunk (and to add to the green-blues of this album cover), I used blue curaçao paired with passionfruit for a subtle tart flavor. It adds just the right amount of sweetness to the overall acidity of the margarita (and of a teenage girl scorned).
Ingredients:
2 oz tequila
2 oz passionfruit nectar
1 oz blue curaçao
large squeeze of lime juice
insides of 1 passionfruit
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake together and strain into a chilled glass with ice and salt rim. Garnish with half of a passionfruit.
“Got the radio on, my old blue jeans, and I’m wearing my heart on my sleeve.”
