Where to Eat in Banff: 7 Awesome Foodie Spots
If you’re looking for some suggestions on where to eat in Banff on your next trip, look no further! Banff has a great range of food options, from fine dining restaurants to grab-and-go cafes, happy hours, and so much more.
I never had Banff pegged for a foodie town, but when I took a long weekend trip there recently, I was so pleasantly surprised by how great the food is there! Banff is an area that prides itself on fresh, local ingredients with heavy alpine influence in most of the dishes you’ll find in town, from hearty meats and wild game to foraged berries and vegetables. So many restaurants here are serving up delicious food made with care and creativity, and there is truly no shortage of amazing restaurants in town, so I’m sharing my favorite finds so far for anyone wondering where to eat in Banff!
✰✰✰
1. Sky Bistro
By far my favorite dining experience in Banff was dinner at Sky Bistro — it’s a must when you’re visiting! It’s located at the top of Sulphur Mountain, so you get to take a quick ride on the Banff Gondola to get there. After you reach the summit and explore the boardwalk, discovery center, and rooftop patio, make your way to the restaurant for a delicious dinner overlooking the Canadian Rockies. The interior of the restaurant is a really nice balance between casual and elevated. Because the food and dining experience is top-tier, but in a more laid-back setting filled with hikers, tourists, solo diners, families, and date-night guests alike, you can be sure to enjoy a lovely meal without feeling out of place in whatever you’re wearing.
For dinner, I had the alpine tagliatelle and the lemon and thyme brown butter tart paired with a glass of white wine, and it was a delicious meal all around! The pasta was made up of spinach tagliatelle, Alberta beef short rib ragù, brown butter and chili breadcrumbs, and a horseradish crema — absolutely stunning flavors, and all made from fresh, local ingredients. As for the tart, this gorgeous dessert featured a sea buckthorn spread and a micro lemon balm to round out the palate — and again, it was stunning. If you like a rich, buttery dessert with a hint of tartness, this is the choice for you! This was definitely a meal to savor and enjoy slowly, especially with such friendly staff and such a calm ambiance. Sky Bistro is definitely worth a trip if you’re visiting Banff, and it’s definitely necessary to make a reservation ahead of time!

2. Brazen
Brazen was definitely my favorite restaurant directly in Banff town — I genuinely don’t know how it was so dead when I got there around 3pm on a Sunday, but I had nearly the whole place to myself. Their happy hour is small but really unique, and definitely worth a visit if you’re in town. I got the polenta fries and Brussels sprouts, and though they were very small portions, the flavors were outstanding! The fries were crisp around the edges, served with a corn purée, pickled corn, pecorino, and popcorn (lots of corn in this dish!), and the Brussels sprouts came with blue cheese, pickled cranberries, and an orange gastrique, which is like a syrupy sweet & sour sauce. Both dishes were incredibly well-balanced and just the right size for a solo diner like myself! Their brown butter Manhattan was to die for, too. So rich, and the perfect balance of sweet and bitter, so if you like a strong whiskey-based cocktail, get this one.
Their happy hour menu on the website looks a bit different than when I visited (May 2026) so I assume they make some seasonal changes. I always suggest reaching out to restaurants beforehand if you’re trying to make dinner plans based on their online menus, just so you know what will be available when you get there! The service was wonderful, too — my order was rung in incorrectly, so they gave me two orders of sprouts by accident (with no extra charge), and that was a nice little bonus. As far as places to eat in Banff go, I give Brazen a 10/10 all around!

3. Pizzeria Sophia
Pizzeria Sophia is a must-try spot in Banff, IMO. Delicious, filling pizza, great cocktails, and a cool vibe all around — what’s not to love? It’s a good restaurant for both lunch and dinner, but I specifically went during happy hour and definitely recommend it, if not only for the cute pizza scissors that come with your order. The frozen peach Bellini was really sweet and refreshing, and the ‘nduja pizza was delicious and super filling. Can confirm that the pizza is still great eaten cold (hotel leftovers, anyone?), and you get a little post card with your bill, which is a cute souvenir!

4. Banff Social
I wanted to try bison while I was in Banff since it’s such a staple in Alberta, and the bison meatballs at Banff Social were absolutely delicious! They had a really unique, rich flavor, though I wasn’t expecting the texture to be as crumbly as it was. Regardless, these meatballs are definitely worth a visit to Banff Social, especially paired with a glass of wine on their patio. This was another restaurant that was absolutely dead on a Sunday afternoon, which really surprised me, but don’t let a potential lack of a crowd stop you from dining here!

5. Bluebird Woodfired Steakhouse
I had a lovely brunch at Bluebird and would highly recommend this spot! Their French toast is delicious — I had to get it without their typical honey crème fraîche due to an allergy, but the caramel spread on the bottom made up for that in droves. The space is really warm and inviting while still looking trendy, which gives it an approachability that I really loved. It’s definitely a great spot for brunch, and it looks like they offer great dinner and happy hour menus, too!

6. Magpie & Stump
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my meal at Magpie & Stump! Truthfully, I was a bit skeptical when I walked into an almost completely empty restaurant at 2pm on a Friday, but I had been eyeing their happy hour and it did not disappoint. I got one of each of their “classic” tacos, which were chorizo & potato, carnitas, and pumpkin. My favorites were the carnitas and the chorizo & potato — the pumpkin was still decent, but it could have used a bit more seasoning. Their happy hour put these tacos at $3 each and my double strawberry margarita at just under $8 (though they’ve since upped the price to $12). Highly recommend, especially after a couple hours of walking around and shopping in the sun!

7. Wild Flour Bakery
I only stopped into Wild Flour for a quick takeout drink before exploring the town of Banff, but if I’d had more time, I would have loved to sit and enjoy a pastry or sandwich! Their food selections looked delicious, and their peach lemonade was pretty good, too, though I think it could have been a tiny bit sweeter. The cafe space was very cute, and it seemed super popular at all times during my stay, so if you’re looking for a quick and yummy spot to eat or drink in Banff, this is a great option!

Honorable Mention: The Guide’s Pantry
If you’re taking a trip to Lake Louise but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg at one of the fancier restaurants in the Fairmont Chateau, stop by the Guide’s Pantry! The cafe is right inside the hotel, and it’s a good (albeit still pricey) spot to grab a coffee or quick bite to eat before you hike, walk the lakefront trail, or just sit and enjoy the views. They have a bakery counter for coffee and pastries, as well as a good selection of grab-and-go foods like burritos, sandwiches, drinks, chips, and more.
Food & Drink Recs: Hot chocolate, breakfast burrito

On My List for Next Time
Again, I only spent a couple of days in Banff, so I didn’t get to try nearly as many spots as I’d have liked! Here are some restaurants that are high on my list for the next time I visit Banff:
The Bison: This spot is heavily accredited, has an incredible menu, and looks gorgeous — definitely a must-visit for me someday.
LUPO: I’ve heard rave reviews of their pizza and pasta, and constantly see this spot listed as one of the best places to eat in Banff, so I will be back to try some for sure!
Good Folk: I’m super intrigued by their menus and the cozy, elevated atmosphere here. This would be a great spot for a special occasion dinner!
Three Bears Brewery: I love creative pub food and local spirits & ciders, so this would be a perfect stop with friends in the future!
Block Kitchen + Bar: Definitely hoping to try their global-inspired small plates someday soon.
Farm & Fire: This is a super popular farm-to-table restaurant that always pops up when I’m searching where to eat in Banff, so I’d love to check it out for myself instead of just seeing it all over social media!
