The Bitch Is Back - Elton John
Honestly, just the title of this song says it all. This is one of my all-time favorite Elton John songs, and trying to plan out a cocktail that could do it justice in both taste and appearance was tough. It needed to be fruity, flamboyant, and pack a big punch (all things that can describe both this song and Elton John himself). I knew it was going to be tropical, so it needed rum; pink was the only natural fit for the color, so dragonfruit just fell into place; and edible glitter has been a trend in this collection (rightfully so), and this drink just wouldn’t be the same without it.
We start off the song with a punchy guitar strum, and almost immediately the horns come in blasting, creating such a vibrant, feel-good sound that’s mimicked by the warm fuzzies only rum can bring you. The taste of dragonfruit is subtle, which seems like the opposite of what you’d want in a crazy drink like this one, but the guava is what really shines through here. It’s not your typical fruity drink flavor, but paired with the visuals of the dragonfruit, it’s a showstopper definitely worthy of this song title. It’s fruity, it’s fun, it’s the epitome of “that bitch” in cocktail form.
Ingredients:
½ cup guava nectar
2 oz vodka
1 oz coconut rum
1 splash strawberry simple syrup
sprinkle of gold pearl dust
1-2 dragonfruits, cubed or balled
1 sliced dragonfruit peel
Combine guava nectar, vodka, rum, syrup, and luster dust in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until combined. Add dragonfruit to a large glass and pour cocktail into glass. Garnish with a dragonfruit peel and slice of dragonfruit.
