Seven Wonders - Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac’s Tango in the Night is an underrated album in my eyes, if not only because it’s home to my favorite song in existence. “Seven Wonders” was the song that inspired this entire concept, and the feeling I got when I heard it for the first time was transportive, to say the least. The second I heard those first few wistful notes, I immediately saw a montage of blues and greens flowing, as if I were blowing in the wind or floating underwater–it’s one of the strongest memories I can remember myself thinking “this song feels this color”. It was also the first inspired cocktail that I finalized and felt 100% sure about.
Whether you listen to the early version or the original release, the song begins with a slow, moody melody that quickly picks up with thumping drums and that magical voice only Stevie Nicks brings to the table. The overall sound is so bubbly and wispy, as light as air and water, which inspired the cool blues and light greens of this cocktail. The floral notes of Empress 1908 gin and homemade lavender simple syrup mixed with the bright, fresh flavors of sage, mint and cucumber create a cool, earthy, and refreshing cocktail.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Empress 1908 gin
2 oz soda water
1 oz lavender-infused simple syrup
cucumber, muddled
fresh sage, muddled
fresh mint, muddled
fresh sage and cucumber to garnish
Muddle cucumber, sage, and mint in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add gin, soda water, and simple syrup to the shaker and shake until combined. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with cucumber and fresh sage.
