Before I saw the movie Rocketman, I’d only really known a few of Elton John’s biggest hits–but after watching, “Take Me To The Pilot” quickly became my favorite song of his. It’s just an all-around feel good song that makes you want to sing and dance without being overly energetic, and I knew I needed to create a smooth and sweet cocktail in this song’s image. Since I first heard the song, I’ve also always associated the color purple with it, so I knew immediately what color the cocktail was going to be–and wouldn’t you know, I happened to have black raspberry ice cream in the freezer that day, too.
The song starts off slow but snappy, immediately giving you a taste of what the next 3 minutes are going to sound like. The bass guitar, background violins and little percussion additions give so much dimension to the song, making it feel super rich in sound–so what better to use in this cocktail than rich and creamy black raspberry ice cream? The chocolate chips added a fun flavor and look to the cocktail, too, which really complimented the nutty amaretto and the white chocolate liqueur I used. Both the song and cocktail feel very sultry and smooth, and they both crescendo in sound and flavor the longer you listen/drink.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz amaretto
1 oz Godiva white chocolate liqueur
2 tablespoon black raspberry ice cream (to mix)
1 scoop black raspberry ice cream (to top)
blackberries to garnish
Mix ice cream with amaretto and liqueur in a glass or cocktail shaker with a strainer. Add a scoop of ice cream to a small coupe glass, then pour cocktail over the ice cream. Garnish with blackberries.
