Old Fashioned Cinnamon Sugar Donuts
Ingredients
For the donuts:
- 1 cup flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon + sugar mixture
- ⅓ cup milk
- 3 tablespoon butter melted
- 1 egg
- 1 ¼ tablespoon vanilla extract
For the topping:
- 4 tablespoon melted butter
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
To make the donuts:
- Preheat oven to 350ºF and prepare your donut pan with cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, mix dry ingredients until combined, and set aside.
- In another bowl, mix milk, butter, egg and vanilla until combined.
- Pour the dry ingredients into the wet, mixing until just combined - don’t over-mix!
- Spoon or pipe the batter into your prepared donut pan about ¾ of the way for each donut.
- Bake for about 10 minutes, until donuts have risen and look golden.
To make the topping:
- Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small, shallow bowl and set aside.
- Melt butter in a small bowl and use a pastry brush to brush the butter over one side of a donut.
- Roll the buttered side of the donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated, then repeat on the other side of the donut. Repeat with remaining donuts.
Notes
- Do not dip your donuts in the melted butter! The donuts will absorb too much butter and could get soggy - brushing the butter on the donuts will keep them firm and fluffy.
- Use a piping bag. Filling your donut pan with batter is much easier if you use a piping bag rather than a spoon or spatula!
