Ingredients

For the donuts:

  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon + sugar mixture
  • cup milk
  • 3 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¼ tbsp vanilla extract

For the topping:

  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

To make the donuts:

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF and prepare your donut pan with cooking spray.
  • In a medium bowl, mix dry ingredients until combined, and set aside.
  • In another bowl, mix milk, butter, egg and vanilla until combined.
  • Pour the dry ingredients into the wet, mixing until just combined - don’t over-mix!
  • Spoon or pipe the batter into your prepared donut pan about 3/4 of the way for each donut.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes, until donuts have risen and look golden.

To make the topping:

  • Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small, shallow bowl and set aside.
  • Melt butter in a small bowl and use a pastry brush to brush the butter over one side of a donut.
  • Roll the buttered side of the donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated, then repeat on the other side of the donut. Repeat with remaining donuts.

Notes

  • Do not dip your donuts in the melted butter! The donuts will absorb too much butter and could get soggy - brushing the butter on the donuts will keep them firm and fluffy.
  • Use a piping bag. Filling your donut pan with batter is much easier if you use a piping bag rather than a spoon or spatula!
