ALBUM: 1989 (Taylor's Version)

While 1989 is pretty much a total deviation from Taylor’s previous albums in terms of sound, there’s one piece of imagery that’s constant through much of the album: red lipstick. It was the first thing I noticed when listening to the album, and the first thing I thought of when envisioning the photoshoots for these cocktails. Once I made the connection, there was no changing my mind–this drink was going to have a red lip on it even if it was going to kill me. The cocktail itself took a few different shapes through this process (much like I imagine the 1989 album did), but I knew above all else it needed to taste as sweet and fun and exciting as the songs on this album sound. Cherry being such a classic flavor naturally got chosen, and the vanilla ice cream just fell into place! It’s a gorgeous blend of sweet and tart, perfectly fitting for such punchy, classic pop songs (don’t pretend like the 1989 earworms aren’t actually just bangers, guys). I shot this before Taylor’s Version was announced (with a pale blue background and classic red lip), so that was a sort of kismet moment, too!
Ingredients:
2 oz cherry vodka
3-4 oz melted vanilla ice cream
splash of simple syrup
scoop of maraschino cherries (with juice)
cherries to garnish
Combine vodka, ice cream, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake together until smooth, then pour the scoop of cherries and juice into a small glass. Pour shaker contents into the glass and top with cherry garnish.

“…and I got that red lip classic thing that you like.”
