ALBUM: evermore
evermore is folklore’s depressed older sister in pretty much every possible way. The color scheme is darker, the lyrics are more traumatic, and the overall vibe is very much “haunted old barn in the middle of nowhere.” Taylor’s photoshoot for this album is one of my favorites of all time, so I wanted the evermore cocktail shoot to give off the same essence: warm tones, antique aesthetic, very provincial. Like walking into a 19th century saloon and ordering a drink at the bar. The cocktail itself was an easy choice: it’s almost an Irish Mule, just without the lime. The ginger beer tones down the blackberry whiskey, but in all honesty, Bird Dog is sweet enough to enjoy by itself if you’re feeling extra broody. I actually almost went with straight bourbon for this cocktail–somewhat as a joke, but if we listen to these songs, is it really that far off? I mean, “now my eyes leak acid rain on the pillow where you used to lay your head” doesn’t really call for a fun, fruity drink. This album showcases some of the most devastating lyrics and storytelling I’ve ever heard, and while evermore is jokingly known as the forgotten album, it’s my favorite by far.
