ALBUM: reputation
I will be totally honest here, guys–reputation took a while to grow on me. It was a very polarizing album when it came out at the height of Taylor’s beef with Kim and Kanye, and it felt like a total divide: either you loved it or you hated it. But the longer it’s been out the more I’ve listened to it, and I have to admit that there are some absolute bangers on reputation. Regardless of anyone’s personal thoughts, there’s no denying that the album is a huge shift for Taylor and her music. Truly, we’ve never seen Taylor so outwardly devious and suggestive. It’s unapologetically brash, with hard-hitting beats and even harder-hitting lyrics that focus on empowerment, vulnerability, drama, and her infamous, everlasting criticism. She rises above all throughout the album and inspires listeners to do the same, so obviously this cocktail had to be fit for all the baddies in their rep era. I went with a spicy martini, filled with salty olive brine and lots of heat from the tabasco and arbol chiles. Basically, it’s a hot, badass cocktail to drink while looking hot and being badass.
Ingredients:
2 oz vodka
¾ - 1 oz dry vermouth
¾ oz olive brine
4-5 splashes of tabasco sauce
splash of arbol chili pepper-infused simple syrup
black luster dust
dried Arbol chili pepper to garnish
Combine all liquids and luster dust in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake together and pour into a martini glass with a salt rim. Top with a dried arbol chili pepper.
“So I play ‘em like a violin, and I make it look oh-so easy.”
