You’ll need the following ingredients and equipment to make this homemade gnocchi for two:
- Flour

Customize This Recipe!
There are a few different ways you can customize this recipe:
- Make it sweet or savory. These gnocchi are plain and serve as a great base for either a savory or sweet dish. Vodka sauce, brown butter and nutmeg, autumn veggies, added to a soup... the possibilities are truly endless!
- Add to your dough. You don't just have to add a funky sauce to spice up this gnocchi - add some festive spices like cinnamon and nutmeg to your flour for a holiday meal, or ground cayenne or chili pepper to give your gnocchi some heat!
Step by Step Directions
STEP 1: Boil your potatoes in salted water for about 20 minutes or until they're fully tender.
STEP 2: Roughly mash potatoes and let them cool completely.
STEP 3: Once potatoes are cooled, add them to a bowl and mix in the egg and most of the flour (about ¾ cup) until you get a rough dough.
STEP 4: Knead dough and add in the remaining flour until you get a smoother dough.
STEP 5: Shape the dough into a long rectangle and divide into strips. Roll each strip out a bit and cut into pieces about an inch thick.
STEP 6: Press or roll each gnocchi onto a fork to make small indentations, then boil the gnocchi until they rise to the surface of the water, about 5 minutes. Drain and serve in any sauce you enjoy.
Kitchen Tips:
- Utilize mise en place! Make sure you have all of your ingredients prepped and ready before you begin making this recipe - it will help save you time and keep you organized.
- Cooling is key. If you try to mix and knead the gnocchi dough while the potatoes are still piping hot, you'll burn yourself! Patience is a virtue here, friends - wait until the mixture is lukewarm, not hot, to the touch.
