"Healthy pasta" isn't a phrase I hear (or say) often, but this super simple avocado basil pasta is pretty much as close as you can get. This sauce is stunning in color and taste, made with avocados, fresh basil, leafy spinach, and garlic, giving it an earthy green color and light, refreshing flavor. Pair it with shells like I did, or use your favorite pasta shape! It's perfect for a light springtime meal that won't weigh you down, but still packs a ton of flavor.

You’ll need the following ingredients and equipment to make this creamy avocado basil pasta:
- Blender
- Pasta
- Avocado
- Spinach
- Basil
- Garlic
- Parmesan cheese
- Milk
- Oregano
- Parsley
- Salt
- Pepper
Customize This Recipe!
There are a few different ways you can customize this recipe:
- Add a protein. You've got your greens and healthy fats, but adding a protein like chicken will make this pasta dish even more nutritious!
- Use a fun pasta shape. I love using shells for this recipe because the sauce pools in each little shell, but you can use whatever your favorite type of pasta is!

- Utilize mise en place! Make sure you have all of your ingredients prepped and ready before you begin making this recipe - it will help save you time and keep you organized.
- Save that pasta water. Make sure you save about a cup of pasta water before draining your noodles! The recipe calls for ⅓ cup, but it's best to have some extra pasta water on hand in case you want your sauce any thinner.

Creamy Avocado Basil Pasta
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cup pasta
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 avocado
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon parsley
- ⅓ cup pasta water
- ½ cup milk
- ⅓ cup parmesan
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a pot on the stove, boil the pasta according to package instructions (usually 10 minutes).
- While the pasta is boiling, add the avocado, spinach, basil, garlic, milk, parmesan, and seasonings to the blender and blend until smooth.
- Add in ⅓ cup of pasta water and blend. You can add more water or milk as needed to thin the sauce.
- Drain the pasta and add the pasta and the sauce back into the pot, stirring to coat evenly.
- Transfer pasta to a serving bowl, top with more parmesan, and enjoy!
