Creamy White Wine Garlic Beans and Chickpeas
These creamy garlic beans and chickpeas with white wine are a mouthful in name and in flavor! Beans and chickpeas swim in a creamy sauce made with rich cream cheese, crisp white wine, savory chicken broth, and fresh garlic and herbs.

When I say I make a variation of these creamy beans and chickpeas on a weekly basis, I’m not exaggerating. It’s such a simple and delicious way to get some protein and fiber in your diet while still feeling like you’re indulging in a creamy, cheesy meal! Just cook some shallots and garlic in butter, then melt down some cream cheese, add chicken broth, white wine, and your seasonings, then stir in your beans and chickpeas and let it all simmer before adding some parmesan cheese. I love eating it with a crunchy bread like toasted baguette slices, but it’s delicious on its own, too!

- Large fry pan
- Butter
- Cream cheese
- Shallot
- Garlic
- Chicken broth
- White wine
- Chickpeas
- Pinto beans
- Parsley
- Sage
- Parmesan
- Salt and pepper
Customize This Recipe!
There are a few different ways you can customize this recipe:
- Add tomato paste. For a sweeter flavor, add a tablespoon or two of tomato paste when melting the cream cheese – it adds a gorgeous, fresh taste (and color) to the whole dish!
- Add some heat. I like to let the garlic and white wine shine in this dish, but it would taste delicious with some added seasonings like cayenne or chili powder, or even some red pepper flakes on top.

- Utilize mise en place! Make sure you have all of your ingredients prepped and ready before you begin making this recipe – it will help save you time and keep you organized.
- Melt the cream cheese fully before adding the broth and wine. Otherwise, you’ll have chunks of cream cheese that become grainy when those liquids are added!
- Don’t skip the rest time. Technically you can enjoy this dish right after you take it off the heat, but I find that waiting about 10 minutes and giving it a stir right before serving lets the base thicken even more, making it super creamy and delicious rather than runny.

Creamy White Wine Garlic Beans and Chickpeas
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp butter
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 small shallot chopped
- 4 oz cream cheese room temp
- ½ cup chicken broth
- ¼ cup white wine
- 1 tbsp parsley flakes or chopped fresh
- 1 tsp ground sage
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 15.5 oz chickpeas 1 can, drained
- 15.5 oz pinto beans 1 can, drained
- ⅓ cup parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Melt butter in a large fry pan over low heat. Add shallots and cook until fragrant, about 2-3 minutes, then add in garlic and stir together.
- Add in the cream cheese and heat on low until completely melted, stirring frequently.
- Pour in the broth, white wine, and spices, whisking until smooth. Cook on medium-low for about 5 minutes until the mixture starts to gently bubble.
- Add in the chickpeas and beans and stir together gently until combined. Let the pan simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened slightly, whisking occasionally.
- Add in the parmesan cheese and stir to combine, simmering for a few more minutes.
- Once bubbling and slightly thickened, remove from heat and let the pan sit for about 10 minutes to cool slightly and thicken even more.
- Top with any additional seasonings or parmesan cheese and serve with a crusty bread!
